The Cliff...

Everyone on the island seemed to be gregarious. Marilyn stopped having a groggy conservation with him to start having a latter conversation with a complacent boy named Micheal. His apparent Manic Pixie Dream Girl of a friend Anne was also reconciling quarrels with Dani. Devin ultimately decided to seclude himself yet again in the cliff. No, he wasn't going to jump it. For someone of his taciturn demeanor, he found this place to be ludicrous. Lull and ludicrous. Quite a soothing place to ostracize himself.

"Why are you here, and how did you get here so quickly?"
A noise resided beyond the bends and curves of the cliff. She revealed herself, a girl with a rather gloomy appearance in darker shades and cloudy skies. She seemed ominous. A smirk that was intended to be endearing came off as utterly threatening.

Devin threw daggers at her. Cold and piercing. Peony's cognizant intuition was not going to going to antagonize Devin. Surely, he has seen worse things in his life. His blank face stayed irrevocable and enigmatic. His surly character would have been too much for the girl. Or would it not?

She observed his reaction with a calm disposition. There was no response to escape from her lips. She understood. She knew why he came. It was an altered, distorted version of the reason in which she came. To be alone in some way or another, for whatever possible reason. She returned his brisk expression, legs spread apart, arms folded, and skirt blowing rapidly in the wind. She was not going down without a fight.

Peony's abrupt reactions were so whimsical to Devin, yet...he hid that fact under his indifferent mask. He wondered why Peony knew so much, at the same time...why use such that notion against him? Surely, it was for a million dollars. But if you use your wit like that, you surely must need psychological help. Devin grimaced at her skirt fapping in the air.

Peony took Devin's shift in facial expression into notice, and didn't refrain from flashing a sly, hungry smile. The menacing smile of the wolves before a hunt. She was ready to attack. Peony had the slightest feeling that his grimace was a sign that she was weakening him to an extent, at least he was showing some smidget of emotion.
The clouds above the cliff were stirring in correspondence with the howling winds. It seemed as if a storm was approaching the island. Thunder crackled, as spears of lightning danced across the lackluster skies. It was time.
She put one foot in motion by stepping forward near the boy. She closed her eyes and placed her fingers on her temples.
"Devin...I know how you feel." She spoke smoothly to him.
"You seem to be taking refuge from everybody, yes? I am as well."

Devin reluctantly bowed. Thunder and Peony were still no signs of weakness for him. He was used to his house tumbling down due to sordid conditions. He did not dare say more and decided to conceal his inceptional fate. Those hungry eyes for the begging- he would rise up against them. He was grinning.

Peony released her fingers, opening her eyes at the same time. She struck a glare towards Devin, and with hesitation, decided to give up. She turned around and proceeded to saunter up the cliff. Faint drops of rain began to dapple the island. Peony didn't seem to mind. Storms were important to her for a certain reason. They were essential for something. She took Devin into note, placing an entry about him thus far in her phone, which turned out to be much more than a phone.

Devin daggered back. Devin also enjoyed rain, he put his hands out to feel the rain. He rolled his eyes at the phone- thinking it was some omen of technology. He now knew he was being watched. He would dauntingly wander aimlessly from a distance. He would study Peony's 'phone'. Engineering and high-tech things have always fascinated him.

Peony could sense his essence from a distance. She clenched her phone tightly, placing it back in her pocket where it'd be secure. She wouldn't know how to survive without that contraption. Survive on this island, around these teenagers, anyway. Soon, she reached the highest point of the cliff. The scent of the rain brought a smile to her face. It was strange how this weather was so beneficial to her. Once again, she closed her eyes and placed her fingers on her temples. She then recorded something, such as observations, on her phone via voice.
"Log entry number one; No sign of any particular outliers. Two possible candidates for the project though are in record. No glimpses of any striking thoughts thus far. Hoping to find more information eventual-"
A strong heave of wind, combined with rain, savaged the cliff. Peony lost a grip of her phone, and in an instant, it plummeted to the depths of the sea. She watched it with a blank expression. Stoicism masking panic. She had nobody to take her anger out on, and surely the humans would perish in the wake of her rage. She couldn't take it out on them. She just sat there by the edge of the cliff, mourning the loss of her guide.

How could she even get signal?...

Devin blankly glanced at Peony's ineffectual attempt to figure him out- her phone diverging made him even more indifferent. He was provocative about Peony in general, he would classify her under 'irksome'. He ignored the hynoptic weather and would henceforth swerve from Peony's presence.

Peony glanced behind herself for a second, sighing in relief when she noticed Devin walking away. She stood up, placed her foot on the very edge of the cliff, and eventually resided her stare on the pale waters of the churning sea.
There's only one way to retrieve it...
She leapt off the edge. There was no instance of fear in her vessel of a body. The only thing she could possibly worry about was if Devin had witnessed this action. Did he?

Devin turned around to witness Peony leap off the edge.

...That cliff is over 1000 feet.

He sighed deeply to himself to promenade towards the dock- even though there were too many people there.

Through an array of obstacles, she eventually made it to shore intact, with the contraption in hand. Just a bit of water wouldn't hurt. She wondered about Devin, and if her entry was saved on her phone, or erased from the contact with water. She glared above at the cliff.
What could he be doing?

Devin was almost near the dock. He had no intention to look back for a certain crazy stalker girl in sight. He mumbled to himself along the way.

She decided to dispose of the idea of making it back to the cliff at the moment, though it wouldn't be a burden at all. She instead shifted along the coastline towards the dock, staking her feet in the damp sand as she trodged through.

After picking her job for the challenge, Marilyn was tired of waiting around for the challenge itself to begin. She left the discussion room to kill some time.
From the cliff, she had quite the view. Maybe it wasn't the prettiest ocean, but an ocean is an ocean, and it's big from any point of view.

"Well this is kinda nice." Marilyn sat down and just enjoyed it.

Anne nonchalantly wandered around the cliff and had a vague idea that other people were around. She saw Marilyn and decided to be friendly.

"Hello Marilyn."

Marilyn, being in a mellow mood, was friendly as well.

"Hey Anne."
